Description:

General Manager of Paradise Inn a 121 room historic hotel located at 5400 ft level in Mt Rainier National Park. This is summer season position; right candidate can be transferred to the National Park Inn as GM for the winter season. POSITION SUMMARY: Coordinate department supervisors/managers to create a team oriented and goal-directed staff. Opens and closes all units at Paradise Inn including hotel, dining room, kitchen, service bar, retail and cafe operations. Responds to guest problems and complaints, resolving whenever possible and referring to Department Managers when necessary. Trains and motivates staff reporting to this position. Oversees day-to-day operations. Gives working direction to all supervisors/managers of the hotel operation. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Cash registers, credit card terminal, radio, Aloha, POS, PMS (systems), calculator, computer, copy machine, keyset telephones and general operational equipment. NATURE AND SOURCE OF SUPERVISION: Receives working direction from Operations Manager. Interfaces with Retail Buyer, Local Controller, and Personnel Manager.

Duties:

KEY JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES: • Promotes the spirit and intent of Guest Services Hospitality Standards. • Remains aware of safety/security issues in your unit and environment. • Promote Career Development and Workplace Diversity. • Must learn inventory procedures. • Must possess knowledge of front desk, retail, food and beverage, and housekeeping operations. • Daily inspection of all areas of PI, including exterior of building, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the operation. • Be familiar with and comply with Park Service, OSHA, and Public Health Service standards for entire operation. Participate in formal inspections and evaluations. • Oversee department training of hourly staff. • Provide counseling to supervisors when dealing with problematic employees; follow through on coaching or disciplinary documentation from department supervisors. • Resolve guest problems/complaints immediately within established guidelines. • Review department schedules checking to see if demands of daily business are met. • Oversees adherence of established cash handling procedures. • Oversees front desk operations and is present during peak check-in times whenever possible. • Checks management and supervisors' work schedules to ensure proper management coverage of each department. • Daily enforcement of uniform and name tag policy. • Reviews time cards for accuracy and policy adherence • Instructs management in payroll projections to adhere to budgeted guidelines. • Has working knowledge of all departments and is able to assist when necessary. • Assists Personnel Manager in periodic inspection of employee housing areas, including coordination of Residence Supervisor when needed. • May assist during inventories (food and/or retail) when needed. • Performs such other related duties as directed or required. 

Qualifications:

PREREQUISITES: Education: College Degree. PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS: • Two (2) years supervisory experience in food and beverage, retail, housekeeping, hotel operations and experience with training of supervisors. Must have clean credit history. PERSONAL QUALITIES AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to speak clearly and listen attentively to guests, supervisors and employees. Must be able to write legibly as well as read and understand directions and instructions. Appearance must be in compliance with company guidelines.  Must wear company approved slip resistant shoes.   Will be required to perform diverse physical tasks. Must be able to stoop, bend, grasp, kneel, handle, reach and squat. Extensive walking and stair climbing. Good physical energy, stamina, and agility. Must withstand exposure to wet floors. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds periodically. Must be service, security and safety oriented. Must possess a sense of awareness, timelines, urgency, humor, and common sense. Must be able to adapt to the isolation of park life.
